ERTRAC - European Road Transport Research Advisory Council
ERTRAC’s objective is to help maximise the effectiveness of public and private research into road transport.
According to ERTRAC, road transport is a key driver of the European economy: a major contributor to EU employment and the competitiveness of many other industrial sectors, it represents some 11% of total European GDP.
As a significant contributor to research in this area, ERTRAC recently announced its strategic research agenda for the next two decades.

eSafety Effects Database

The eSafety effects database has been compiled by eSafetySupport in order to maintain the uptodate knowledge of the effects of different eSafety systems or intelligent vehicle safety systems. The database is based on studies, conference papers and articles concerning the effects of eSafety systems, and particularly their safety effects.

ETSC
ETSC, a Brussels-based independent non-profit organisation, provides an impartial source of expert advice on transport safety matters to the European Commission, European Parliament, and Member States.

European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA)
ACEA is the professional body representing the interests and combined skills of thirteen European car, truck and bus manufacturers at European level and throughout the world.

European Commission – DG Information Society
DG INFSO is responsible for the eSafety programme which is a joint initiative of the European Commission,  industry and other stakeholders and aims to accelerate the development, deployment and use of Intelligent Integrated Safety Systems, that use information and communication technologies in intelligent solutions, in order to increase road safety and reduce the number of accidents on Europe's roads.

European Commission – DG Transport and Energy
The road safety programme of DG TREN aims to ensure a sharing of responsibilities, and in accordance with the competences of each party involved (EU, Member States, regional and local authorities, industry, transport companies and private users), this programme aims to encourage road users to improve their behaviour, to make vehicles safer, and improve road infrastructure. It provides for the setting up of a European Road Safety Observatory within the Commission. Lastly, it proposes that all the parties concerned, whether public or private, should subscribe to the European Road Safety Charter.

European Conference of Ministers of Transport, ECMT
Recent trends in road accidents have induced the Council of Ministers to set up specific quantitative targets for road safety such as the reduction by 50% of the number of deaths in road accidents for all ECMT Member countries by 2012. To this end, the Group on Road Safety will intensify its activities in response to the seriousness of the situation as outlined by the Council of Ministers, and among other things conduct a review of any new approaches the ECMT might adopt towards road safety. Proposals derived from this exercise could be incorporated into the Conference's new three-year work programme.

European Cyclist Federation
The ECF stimulates and organises the exchange of information and expertise on bicycle-related transport policies and strategies as well as the work of the cyclists' movement.

European Enhanced Vehicle-safety Committee, EEVC
The EEVC was founded in response to the initiative for an international programme on Experimental Safety Vehicles and conducts research work in a number of automotive working areas.

European Federation for Transport and Environment, T&E
T&E is the European umbrella for non-governmental organisations working in the field of transport and the environment.

European Police Association

The EPA actively promotes contact and exchange of information between the staff of different police services. EPA has a partnership with SOS 112.

European Road Safety Charter

is an initiative from the European Commission to reach its goal of reducing the number of road casualties by 2010. The purpose is to have as many stakeholders as possible in the traffic field making a commitment to undertake concrete actions and further promote the need to reduce road fatalities.

ERSO is one of the SafetyNet final results. SafetyNet is an integrated project and co-funded by the European Commission within the Sixth Framework Programme (2002 -2006).

The ERF is a non-profit association which coordinates the views and concerns of Europe's road sector. ERF acts as a European platform for dialogue, condenses the road sector's input on mobility issues and promotes research leading to a more sustainable road transport.

Intelligent Transportation Systems Council
The scope of this interdisciplinary activity includes the promotion, consolidation and coordination of ITS technical activities among IEEE entities, and providing a focus for cooperative activities, both internally and externally.

Nordisk Vegteknisk Forbund
NVF (Nordic Road Association) is an organisation in the Nordic countries with interest in the field of road and transport engineering. Subgroup 53 (Road Transport Informatics) is engaged in the progress and use of information technology and telematics in this particular area.

PIARC - World Road Association
PIARC - World Road Association - was founded in 1909 following the 1st International Road Congress held in Paris in 1908. It is the oldest international association concerned with Road Engineering, Road Policy and the Management of Road Networks. It has evolved since and now boasts 93 Member Governments and other Members in 129 countries worldwide. The official languages of PIARC are French and English and its central office is located in Paris, France.
