Monitoring of public transport sites for the purposes of traffic control is in place and the information is provided to the road user. Malta is currently working to introduce intelligent traffic management with a 24 hour monitoring of the network and a tender was published at the end of November 2006. Furthermore Malta launched a pilot project to provide Real-Time parking availability linked to the parking control strategy of the capital city. Speed cameras systems are deployed.

As for ICT for Clean Mobility, applications in Malta are: linked traffic light junctions and loop activation of traffic lights. A pilot project to introduce intelligent systems to address congestion and safety problems in traffic sensitive locations was launched.

Malta is currently exploring the possibility of receiving European funding for eCall implementation.
An effort is required to do more awareness and education work.
